Founded in 1984 by Bernd Frankenstein and his wife Ellen, Frankenstein Präzision GmbH
& Co. KG is now a medium-sized enterprise with approximately 75 employees. The company supplies
components to the automotive industry from its headquarters in St. Johann in southern Germany.
Frankenstein Präzision uses honing machines to process components for air bags, fuel injection
pumps, hydraulic components and gears. The company also manufactures quality-tested complete parts
for the automotive industry, including valves for high-pressure pumps in luxury automobiles. In
addition, Frankenstein Präzision also supplies complete components for manufacturers of double
clutch transmissions. A total of 16 million components leave the company's high-tech facility each
year.
To keep track of this substantial volume of production, Frankenstein Präzision uses SAP Business
All-in-One. This SAP solution for mid-sized businesses replaced the company's outdated
heterogeneous IT environment. Before the new solution was implemented, operations had been impeded
by inadequate document management and serious data redundancy. The company also experienced
difficulties with the interfaces to the ERP solution and measurement job management. The old IT
environment was no longer meeting the company's needs.
The decision to replace the old IT environment
with SAP Solutions was not easy for the family business. "At first we thought SAP wouldn't be
flexible enough to meet the needs of a small mid-sized business. But just the opposite was true. We
were impressed by the Solutions' large-scale integration, which eliminates the need for interfaces
and ensures consistent data management. Other selling points were ease of maintenance and the fact
that one provider, SAP-VAR partner Sycor (formerly cogimo), would provide both software and
support. Security of investment was yet another factor," explains Steffen Frankenstein, son of the
company's founder, who has been running the company alongside his sister Katja since July 2009.
"I can't think of any other IT suite that's as flexible as SAP. If SAP can't do the job, no
solution can."
