Microsoft Dynamics AX AIF (Application Integration Framework) is a process that merges data or functions from Microsoft Dynamics AX (formerly Axapta) with those of other programs and systems. For this kind of integration, it is irrelevant whether other programs or systems are located inside or outside the company. This merging of data can be implemented via Microsoft Dynamics AX Business Connector, the file system, Windows Message Queue, Web services or via Microsoft BizTalk Server.

Microsoft Dynamics AX can be merged in various ways with integrated business solutions – the three most common scenarios are hub and spoke, customer-supplier and application-to-application.

  • A hub and spoke scenario comprises a parent company (hub) and several subsidiaries (spokes). As companies vary in size, the parent company uses a tier 1 ERP system and each subsidiary deploys its own Microsoft Dynamics AX. With Microsoft Dynamics AX AIF a secure and automated connection can be established between the main ERP system and the Microsoft Dynamics AX software installed in the various subsidiaries.

  • In the customer-supplier scenario, various independent and integrated business solutions of a supplier and its customer are integrated to simplify the order process. In this manner, a direct connection of the supplier's business solution with the customer's inventory management and procurement systems can replace telephone, fax or manual methods of ordering. Microsoft Dynamics AX AIF can directly support such B2B scenarios and it can be extended to include a wide range of other business processes.

  • The application-to-application scenario differs from the other two. This application relates only to one location. A company can deploy its Microsoft Dynamics AX solution for the larger part of the business processes and use other systems for special requirements, for example, billing. Even in this scenario, a seamless connection can be created via AIF.

We will be happy to show you how you can deploy Microsoft Dynamics AX AIF (Application Integration Framework).
